Kettlebells

Kettlebells - the modern Ishi sashi alternative

Kettlebells are a good alternative to Ishi sashi's, and work well with all Ishisashi techniques. They can be found at a large retail store (chain) in Australia for a very reasonable price and also at several online stores at a much higher cost. Kettlebells are available in many different weight categories, 3.4kg, 4.5kg, 6.5 kg to 40+kg. To find suppliers just enter "kettlebell" into your favourite search engine.

Note: This information is based on my own experience, please use this information at your own discretion.

Grow your own Goya (Bitter Melon)

Click for slide show.
Much has been written about the benifitial properties of Goya (Bitter Melon),
there is no need for me to repeat what has been published extensivly (for example at Wikipedia).
Higaonna Sensei also spoke many times about the benfits of including Goya in our diet.

The seeds are available at any good Asian groceries store.
I have planted a few seedling in small pots as well as in a larger pot with some wire mash to support climbing.
Just find a warm spot any where in your garden or balcony etc, they will do just fine.
