The International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF) was
formed in July, 1979, during a meeting held at the first international gasshuku

The IOGKF was established for the purpose of protecting and preserving traditional
Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do and spreading this art throughout the nations
of the world.
The IOGKF represents the philosophy of Goju-Ryu founder Chojun Miyagi Sensei.
Since 1979 the IOGKF has been growing rapidly. There are now about 50 countries
worldwide, with new members joining all the time.
The
dojo is is about a 5 minute walk from the Refine
apartments,
as you exit the main entrance turn left and walk to the second traffic light
at the main intersection and you should see the Dojo sign across the street.
The Monorail is right above the intersection.
Cross the intersection and turn right in front of the sign, then walk down
the road and turn left at the end of the road and turn right again at the
first side road, walk about 100 meters up the hill and you should see the
dojo to your left.
Jundokan Honbu Dojo
The Jundokan was founded in the mid 1950’s after Chojun Miyagi Sensei had passed away.
Eiichi Miyazato Sensei, while reluctant to take on the responsibility, was urged by dojo seniors and Miyagi Sensei’s wife to carry on the teachings and traditions passed on by Miyagi Sensei in a meeting about the succession of the Miyagi Sensei’s dojo and Gojuryu.
The Jundokan originally started out as a small wooden dojo but with increasing
numbers of students it was decided that a more robust, larger dojo would
be needed.
In the 1970’s the current dojo was constructed on the spot in now stands.
Over the years a number of well known Gojuryu practitioners made their
start in the Jundokan under the guidance of Miyazato Sensei – among them
are Teruo Chinen (Jundokan International) and Morio Higaonna (IOGKF).
The Jundokan is a traditional Gojuryu dojo and the focus on training is
kata, hojo-undo, and bunkai.
Sports karate is not a part of the Jundokan whose primary goal is to preserve
Okinawan Gojuryu in its traditional form as passed down by Chojun Miyagi
Sensei and Eiichi Miyazato Sensei.
The dojo has group trainings three nights a week (Mon, Wed, Fri) which
are taught by any one of the six 8 th, 9th and 10th
Dan’s regularly in the dojo.
It is located right next to the Imperial and
Refine Apartments.
